
Regional artists (18 yrs+) are invited to apply to "Night Trees," a juried exhibition of original 2-D work inspired by the poem "Night Trees" by local poet Ruth Ann Meyers Kulp (below). Diverse interpretations are encouraged.
This exhibition is sponsored by Rivertownes PA USA 501c3 / Marietta Art Alive! and hosted by MH Art Gallery.

Eligible Work
Original 2-D work (paintings, drawings, pastel, collage, mixed media, monotypes, etchings, etc.) created within the last three years solely by the artist. Artwork must be no longer than 24" on either side including frame. All work must be framed or gallery wrapped (finished sides), wired and ready to hang. No sawtooth hangers will be accepted.

The following is not permitted in the show:

Photography, digital art or commercial prints,

Derivative art where the source (another artist's work or photograph) is recognizable.

Work created during a class, workshop or online tutorial.
Entry Deadline
The deadline for entry is October 2, 2023 at 8 p.m.

Application Process
A $15 entry fee entitles artists to enter up to 2 pieces of work. Photos of artwork must be submitted with the application. Before uploading images be sure they are smaller than 4 MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Images should be in JPEG format and may be resized at https://imageresizer.com. Applicants automatically consent to their artwork being used in promotional materials. Accepted artists will be notified on October 6, 2023, via email. Artists are responsible for any loss or damage to their work during this show. Artists are responsible for the drop off and pick up of work.

Gallery Hours: Second Friday 5-8, Saturday/Sunday 11-3

Juror and Awards
The Juror of Acceptance & Awards is Tanis Garber-Shaw . Two $100 Juror's Choice Awards and two $50 Honorable Mention Awards will be presented on October 13 at 6:30 PM. One $50 People's Choice Award will be announced and presented on Sunday, November 19th at 1pm at MH Art Gallery. The public may vote on their favorite artwork up until noon on that date.

About the Juror
Tanis Garber-Shaw grew up in Buck's County, PA, aware from an early age of the area's rich artistic heritage In her mid-thirties, unhappy with her career in nursing, she decided to finally pursue her love of art. She attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia and, in addition to receiving a Fine Arts Certificate, she was awarded a J. Henry Scheidt European Traveling Scholarship. During her summer of travel, she happened upon an exhibit in Florence, Italy, of Joseph Cornell's assemblages and collages, which profoundly influenced her artistic direction.
Her work has been Included in the Demuth Foundation's annual Invitational shows and the Lancaster Museum of Art. In 2019, along with fellow collage artist, Blakelyn Albright, she exhibited her work in "Color - Text - Conversations" at Lancaster Galleries. She has received three awards for her entries into the National Collage Society's annual open exhibits. She lives with her husband, Gene Shaw, in Lancaster City.

Gallery Sales & Commission
Artwork must be for sale; 30% of all sales will benefit Rivertownes PA USA (Marietta Art Alive) 501c3. Sales tax will be collected and paid by Rivertownes PA USA..

Drop Off/Pick Up Dates
Accepted work must be dropped off on Monday, October 9, 2023 from 10am-12 noon or 4pm-6pm, at the MH Art Gallery, 42 W. Market Street, Marietta, PA.
Unsold work must be picked up on Sunday, November 19 from 3pm-5pm or Monday, November 20 from 10am-12 Noon at same location.
